The purpose of the Code is to state the requirements and recommendations for reinforcement of PVC-U windows and doors, both in new building work and for replacement products. It is intended to provide sufficient information to help both Specifiers and Fabricators to choose the correct levels of reinforcements, without costly over-specification, and to harmonise the approach throughout the industry towards reinforcement. Advice is given as to when reinforcement is necessary, how the required rigidity of that reinforcement is calculated, the materials from which reinforcements should be made, and the method of fixing the reinforcement in position. The design calculations involved are of necessity complex. Specifiers and fabricators may well wish to seek the assistance of the designer of the system for guidance in meeting the requirements of this Code. Note March 2003. This publication dates from 1991 and contains some out of date references which readers should check. System suppliers will give their recommendations for individual systems.
